Levi Novey: If 98% of "Green" Products Greenwash – Which are the 2% that Don’t?
Last night, I was intrigued to read news about a study that had found that 98% of “green” products on the shelves of American supermarkets made false claims. Greenwashing has all but reached its climax I thought. But then I quickly wondered, which are the 2% of “green” products that passed the test? Who are the leaders of today that should be put on a pedestal and rewarded with my purchasing dollars?
It turns out that the company that conducted the study, TerraChoice, has not cared to share this information with us. I dug through the “2009 Greenwashing Report” available on their website.
Last week, Oregon’s “Bunny Lady” was arrested for violating a court order banning her from owning pets for five years. Now New Mexico police have cited Nancy Haseman for having 334 rabbits when the city ordinance limits her to five pets.
